| CIRCUS MOMENTOUS
is a forum in which graduate and undergraduates throughout the UC system
can exhibit, screen or perform their creative works. Based on the structure
of a three ring circus, this traveling showcase will include gallery exhibitions,
performances and film/video screenings.
Although its three
part configuration derives from the Greatest Show on Earth the exhibition
will also encompass a re-examination of issues surrounding turn of the
century notions of carnival, fair, freakshow, and masquarade. We are looking
towards an archeology of identity and its manifestations as a way to investigate
how we mark, disguise, and reinvent our political, personal, and sexual
selves. CIRCUS MOMENTOUS utilizes this historical lens as a means to envision
how these themes resonate at the impending close of the 20th Century. |
